Artist Joe Venus says that the inspiration for his painting, Buffalo At Nine Mile Canyon, was gleaned from a most unique petroglyph - a pregnant buffalo bearing an unborn calf in the womb. Venus was deeply touched by the obvious sensitivity of the Fremonts toward Nature's wildlife. And thus recreated a scene from a time long vanished...buffalo roaming freely and abundantly in Nine Mile Canyon. Unfortunately, like the Fremont Indians, the buffalo are gone too. Yet they live-on through ancient etchings, scribed on the walls of Nine Mile Canyon. |
